We Shall Overcome

Last week as our nation elected its first African-American president and at the same time a number of states passed anti-LGBT ballot initiatives, I couldn't help think of the civil rights struggles of African-Americans and other groups. Changing minds and hearts can take a long time but, with God's help, we all continue to believe that together we shall overcome all the forces that keep us down and hinder us from being fully alive and glorifying God.

This video comes from a concert by the African-American soprano Barbara Hendricks, not only a great arstist but also a tireless advocate for the poor and dispossed. Check out this video version of "We Shall Overcome" and her website, which includes some of her advocacy work.

Peace,
P. Chuck
